CampusNow began with a question I kept coming back to between classes at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine: “I’ve got an hour or two. What can I do on campus?” There are club meetups, talks, sports, socials, and student pop-ups, but their announcements are spread across group chats, messages, and flyers. I built one calm place to look so a free afternoon can turn into a chance to find your people.
See what is happening now
The first screen answers the immediate question before asking visitors to search. It separates events happening now from those later today and this week, then lets people browse by time, category, club, or place. Event details bring the practical information together: when to go, where to find it, who it is for, and how to join.
Browsing needs no account. Students can save an event on their device, share its link, or add it to a calendar. The layout is built for a quick check on a phone between classes, with a more spacious view on desktop.
Make discovery useful and trustworthy
An event feed only helps when its details are current. Community submissions go through review before publication, and visitors can flag corrections. CampusNow keeps an empty feed honest when there are no approved events, instead of presenting fictional listings as real campus activity.
The screenshot above is a labelled demo preview with fictional events. It shows how the interface handles live and upcoming listings; it does not represent confirmed UWI events.
Built for the campus community
I designed and developed the React and TypeScript interface around a simple flow: open the app, see what is on, and decide whether to show up. Organisers and community admins have a separate submission and review workflow so the public feed can grow without losing that focus.
CampusNow is an independent student project, not run by or affiliated with UWI. Visitors should check an organiser's announcement for the latest event arrangements.
